From Russian winter to the tropics: is it not dangerous for health to relax in the southern resorts in winter

Short daylight hours, prolonged frosts and plenty of snow can tire even a big lover of winter. Is it worth talking about those to whom the advent of the cold season is not a joy. Many Russians at the first opportunity try to fly to warm countries for at least a week. Let's see if such a drastic climate change is dangerous for the body.

Winter is far from the most comfortable season for our body. And no matter how much Siberians boast of their health, even they experience the negative impact of the harsh climate. First of all, the reduction in daylight and a small amount of sunlight due to increased cloudiness with the advent of winter affects. According to experts, this leads to increased fatigue, drowsiness, general sleep disturbances, decreased immunity, and even the development of depressive states. Some researchers attribute the reduction in daylight and the onset of cold weather to the accumulation of excess weight.

The lack of sunlight even has its own name - "light starvation", it has such a harmful effect on the body. In winter, a person may experience a lack of vitamin D, which is produced under the influence of ultraviolet rays. In addition, there may be a violation of phosphorus-calcium metabolism associated with poor absorption of these elements from food. Contrary to popular belief, a tanning bed will not help offset the lack of ultraviolet radiation.

Therefore, there is nothing surprising in the fact that people want to get out to the south, to the sea and the bright sun, in order to gain strength and strengthen immunity. But experts warn: not everyone will benefit from such a trip.

The first thing worth mentioning is the timing of your stay in the south. If you fly to the resort for only a week, then from such a trip, most likely, there will not be much benefit. The fact is that such a sharp change in climate is still a stress for the body, and, therefore, it will need acclimatization. Even adaptation to seemingly more comfortable conditions takes time. As a rule, this takes about 3-5 days, depending on the individual characteristics of the body. If you flew south for only 7 days, then most of them will most likely go to acclimatization. Therefore, you will not receive tangible benefits in the form of improved immunity from such a trip. Experts recommend heading south for at least 12-15 days.

And the second point that, according to scientists, is worth paying attention to, is the general condition of the body at the time of the trip. If you just came to your senses after a prolonged SARS or suffered any other disease, then your body is not in the best shape. Therefore, a trip to warm countries will not benefit him. All the same acclimatization will make itself felt, and instead of relaxing on the Cote d'Azur, you risk spending time in an international hospital. Do not forget that a weakened body is more susceptible to local infections, and also has difficulty adapting to new foods, water and local cuisine.

From the above, a simple conclusion follows: if you are healthy, and your stay in the south will last at least two weeks, then most likely you will get the expected benefit from such a trip. Otherwise, you should refrain from visiting hot countries or postpone the trip until the onset of a more favorable period.
