A garbage recycling plant with a rooftop ski resort is being built in Denmark

At first glance, the design of this ski resort in Denmark is not much different from similar artificial slopes. Snow-white slopes with coniferous trees, downhill skiing, tracks for different types of winter sports and ski lifts. But ... a garbage processing plant will be located under all this.

The climate of Denmark, located in the north of Europe, is the best suited for skiing. But the terrain does not allow this - there are no mountain slopes. Therefore, the construction of an artificial ski slope is the best solution to this problem. But the authors of the project went further and decided to combine the ski slope with an enterprise for the processing and disposal of household waste.

The author of the idea was the architect Bjarke Ingels and his company Bjarke Ingels Group. Initially, the architectural bureau received an order for the design of a waste recycling plant, which is planned to be placed in a suburb of Copenhagen. The authors of the project decided to combine production functions with a sports and entertainment center. In addition to three downhill runs, for lovers of skiing there are cafes, restaurants and recreation areas. In summer, everyone can visit the ski resort. During the warm season, a park area will be equipped on the roof of the waste recycling plant.

The very idea of combining a winter resort with a household waste disposal company also serves as a propaganda function. This project is designed to draw public attention to the problem of household waste, tell people about how the conversion of garbage into energy results from burning, and also show how much carbon dioxide is generated in this process. For a more visual representation of the production process in the building of the new complex, the creation of an exhibition center is provided. According to the developers, such a close acquaintance with the process of recycling household waste will allow people not only to understand its essence, but also to take a fresh look at the main problem of modern consumer society. In addition, as Bjarke Ingels hopes, this unique project is able to prove to the world that recycling can be not only environmentally friendly, but also bring tangible economic benefits.
