How dangerous are quicksands, and why are they so strange

Quicksand, as a dangerous natural phenomenon, is often featured in adventure novels and detective stories. Insidious villains or innocent heroes become victims of deceiving sands, sucking a person and not giving any chance of salvation. But is quicksand really dangerous and how often these natural objects are found on our planet, we will tell in our material.

Quicksand can be found in various parts of the globe - from sultry deserts to the coasts of Great Britain and Alaska. Similar formations are formed in the presence of several factors at once. This is primarily the presence of sand itself, which is a fairly common rock on our planet, as well as water or air, which make this sand less dense, and therefore completely different in physical properties to ordinary sand. Among scientists, such a structure was called non-Newtonian fluid, and this video shows what properties it has.

One of the most famous places on the planet with quicksand is located in Alaska. Here, on the coast of one of the bays, stretches a many-kilometer strip of treacherous quicksand. A similar place exists on the shores of Lake Michigan, as well as in England. In this country there are several dangerous sandy beaches at once, where even the rescue services are organized, which come to the aid of people in distress.
