Frogs smaller than a human nail - a new discovery in the animal kingdom of Madagascar

Madagascar is an amazing tropical island whose fauna is still only partially explored. The biodiversity of local forests is so great that so far there is no precise idea of the number of animals living there, and expeditions often report the discovery of new species unknown to science before. Not so long ago, biologists reported the discovery of another 5 species of frogs, and very small ones.

The variety of frogs in Madagascar is very large - a warm and humid climate contributes to their prosperity. About 350 species of these amphibians were found here, among which there are a large number of endemic species, as well as amphibians of very small size. But due to the fact that tiny frogs are difficult to explore and identify, since they have an external resemblance, some of them were mistakenly considered representatives of the same species.

The result of recent expeditions was the discovery of 5 new species, 3 of which were assigned to a new genus called Mini. These crumbs look like ordinary frogs, but their size does not exceed 11-12 millimeters. The smallest view - Mini mum It has a length of about 8 millimeters and gives the impression of a fabulous creature.

Biologists note that the animal world of Madagascar, as well as other parts of our planet, is under significant anthropogenic impact. This is primarily due to the disappearance of their natural habitat. Madagascar's growing population is cutting down rainforests to increase agricultural land and timber sales. Tiny frogs, like all other species, need protection and preservation of natural ecosystems, because if they cut down the forest, its inhabitants will disappear.
