Scarecrows: scary photos from the countryside of England

A scarecrow that looks like a person that people put in their gardens and planted farmland is called a scarecrow. Such a measure was invented a long time ago to scare away birds.

Photographer Colin Garrett, during his journey through the countryside of England, discovered so many different scarecrows there that he created a series of pictures with their participation. Some of them look funny and eccentric, while others are even somewhat sinister.

Over the centuries, little has changed in the image of the scarecrow, but most modern stuffed animals are dressed much better.

Each scarecrow is unique in its own way and has a certain character of its own, producing a very different impression. So, some stand rooted to the spot, while others seem to move. Some of them look like they are growing out of the ground, while others walk along the fields, guarding the crop.

Scarecrows depicting women are much less common than men.

Here, for example, is another original female version.

Some believe that to create a successful scarecrow that does its job well, the most important thing is to make its face more scary, according to others, abstract forms scare away birds better.

According to Garrett, when you approach from afar to look at a new scarecrow, it’s always very interesting how it will look, imagine if it will have a face and if so, which one: sad, funny, ominous or completely devilish.

In English, the scarecrow sounds like "scarecrow". Translated literally, you get "scare the raven."

Sometimes some scarecrows seem so realistic and lively that involuntarily there is an eerie feeling that they are watching you.

According to the author, shooting a scarecrow can be a pretty scary task. For example, once he had to take pictures at night. In search of a better angle, he backed away, when suddenly someone touched his shoulder! It was a scarecrow with a very frightening face, from fear Garett's blood literally froze in his veins.
