Where do penguins live? Say in the ice? I thought so too. Until I discovered that some of them are completely normal creatures. At least, Magellan penguins (namely, we are going to hunt them on the shores of the Strait of Magellan) - just such.

So, we woke up at dawn in a tent at the entrance to the Otway penguin reserve. Since we didn’t have water, we had to drink mulled wine for breakfast. Yes, to ensure that the wine did not end, we monitored extremely carefully. In general, in Chile, wine is almost the cheapest liquid.

As soon as the ticketer appeared in the booth, we rushed to the penguins. You know how cool it is when you are the only visitor to a vast area covered by penguins. And there are no fences or fences around. Only you and the whole field of penguins!

Of course, you need to walk only on specially laid paths. But we, taking advantage of the complete absence of both local and tourists, allowed ourselves a couple of times to get closer to the penguins. No, we didn’t run, didn’t wave our hands, didn’t catch them and didn’t jump on the norm dug in the ground so as not to destroy the houses.

Penguins are completely magical creatures. I adore them for something. Maybe for a meaningful look? Or for the hybridity of birds with fish?

In general, we were very lucky. In March, penguins molt, and then they seem to swim somewhere to Brazil and the Atlantic Islands. And they come back again in the autumn to lay eggs. So we miraculously found all this mimimi. Well, they shed it, and do not get sick, if that :)

Penguins need to ride at sunrise or sunset. In the afternoon they are - some in the water, some in the hole. And in the morning, life itself happens. This was one of the reasons why we went to sleep in a tent at the entrance to the park, and did not stay in the city for the night. It was obvious that from the city by dawn hitchhikers did not have time to get here.

South American Indians always enjoyed penguin. But managed to do it in reasonable quantities. But as soon as Europeans got to America, poor penguins almost died out. There are not so many of them now, despite attempts by the guards. And the locals, they say, quietly continue to collect penguin eggs. Looks like a tasty thing.

Now the colony is closed due to the low number of penguins in it. I don’t know what exactly happened and why the number has fallen so much. In any case, the penguins remained on the islands of Marta and Magdalena in the same place, near Punta Arenas. We did not go to the islands because the dates of the tours did not fit (the next tour had to wait 4 days).

This is the third species of penguins around the world. There were Australian micro penguins. Then New Zealand - brighter. These are again black and white. With pleasure I would supplement the collection with royal ones, but so far it has not happened.
